Mortal Shell II Open Beta Achievements Guide

A full list of all Mortal Shell II open beta achievements, how to unlock each one, and whether that beta progress carries over to the full release.

The Mortal Shell II Open Beta has exactly 9 Steam achievements, confirmed on the beta's Steam store page, covering everything from claiming your first Shell to defeating the final boss, Magdalena. None of them carry over to the full game when it launches — they're demo-exclusive.

All 9 Open Beta Achievements

This list is cross-checked between Sportskeeda's achievement breakdown and Steam's own "9 Steam Achievements" listing for the Open Beta build.

  • My First...: Finish the festival sequence and claim your first Shell.
  • Reach Marrowkeep: Reach the Marrow Keep hub area.
  • Brutal, Savage, Rekt: Defeat the Great Arbiter of Flesh.
  • Claim Tiel: Unlock the Tiel Shell.
  • Find Axe and Dagger: Unlock the Axe and Dagger weapon.
  • Complete the Beta: Finish the Open Beta by defeating Magdalena.
  • A Dark Force is Near: Cleanse all Corrupted Statues (Trials) in the beta.
  • Cleanse all Beacons: Cleanse every Beacon available in the beta.
  • Finish the Fight: Get the Tar Golem to 0 Health.

Unlock Order: How the Beta's Story Maps to Achievements

You don't need to hunt for these out of order — the beta's main path naturally hands you most of them if you explore a little along the way.

  1. Finish the festival/prologue sequence to claim your first Shell — unlocks My First....
  2. Grab the Torch near Disciple's Grotto to trigger the scripted Tar Golem fight, then win it for Finish the Fight. Winning gives no extra loot or story change (the cutscene is identical either way) — the achievement is the only prize.
  3. Ride the elevator up and collect the Ovum to reach Marrow's Keep, the main hub — unlocks Reach Marrowkeep.
  4. Complete the trial at Widow's Overlook, then cleanse all 3 Corrupted Statues scattered near it across the beta — unlocks A Dark Force is Near.
  5. Descend the path near the Great Arbiter of Flesh area to grab the map and the Tiel Shell before fighting the boss — unlocks Claim Tiel.
  6. Use the Mushroom Village Key to open the Shrine of Trials dungeon, then loot the chest in its first circular room — unlocks Find Axe and Dagger.
  7. Cleanse all 7 Beacons scattered across the beta — unlocks Cleanse all Beacons.
  8. Defeat the Great Arbiter of Flesh, an optional boss near Widow's Overlook — unlocks Brutal, Savage, Rekt.
  9. Push through the Sunken Village, beat The Wandering Shepherd, then defeat Magdalena, the Lady of the Woods, to end the beta — unlocks Complete the Beta.

Beacons and Corrupted Statue Trials

Two achievements — Cleanse all Beacons and A Dark Force is Near — are pure completion checklists rather than combat challenges.

There are 7 Beacons total in the Open Beta: 2 in the tutorial section (Village Outskirts and Disciple's Grotto), 1 at Widow's Overlook, 1 at Mushroom Village, 1 at the Mushroom Village Gate, and 2 more past the Corrupted Gate near that same gate Beacon. Un-cleansed Beacons still work as rest points but can't be used for fast travel, and they show up in black-and-white on the map until you cleanse them.

The 3 Corrupted Statue Trials are all located near Widow's Overlook. Interacting with a statue starts a Trial that requires clearing every enemy it spawns. Clear all 3 for A Dark Force is Near.

Ritual Grounds Dungeon bug

A known bug in the Ritual Grounds Dungeon can stop its Corrupted Statue trial from spawning enemies past the first one — likely caused by opening "locked" cages that can actually still be opened. If it happens, reset the game, re-enter the dungeon, and head straight to the trial while ignoring every other enemy on the way.

Tips for the Two Hardest Achievements

Brutal, Savage, Rekt (defeat the Great Arbiter of Flesh) isn't meant to be fought this early — Sportskeeda compares it to running into Elden Ring's Tree Sentinel at level 1. Get the Tiel Shell and the Axe and Dagger weapon first, then lean on ranged attacks to build the boss's stagger gauge while holding medium range to keep building Tiel's ability gauge at the same time.

Finish the Fight (get the Tar Golem to 0 Health) is compared to Sekiro's Genichiro or Lords of the Fallen's Lightreaper — a fight that feels like it's "not meant to be beaten yet." It's winnable on a first playthrough, but it's genuinely difficult, and some players may want to start a fresh save just to practice the fight before committing to it on their main run.

Do Beta Achievements Carry Over to the Full Game?

No. Beta progress, gear, and collectibles — achievements included — do not carry over to the full release of Mortal Shell II.

That said, two separate rewards do persist outside the achievement system:

  • Progressing past Marrow Keep in the beta unlocks the ability to skip the Prologue in the full game.
  • Simply playing the Open Beta for 30 minutes unlocks the exclusive Flayed Harbinger cosmetic skin, claimable once the full game releases.

The Open Beta itself runs on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S (via Steam, PlayStation Store, and Microsoft Store respectively). It is not available on Switch, Switch 2, PS4, or Xbox One.

FAQ

How many achievements are in the Mortal Shell II open beta?
9, confirmed by the Open Beta's Steam store page ("Includes 9 Steam Achievements") and matched against Sportskeeda's full achievement breakdown.
Do open beta achievements carry over to the full game?
No. Beta progress, gear, and collectibles do not carry over. The only things that persist are the Prologue-skip unlock (for reaching Marrow Keep) and the Flayed Harbinger cosmetic skin (for playing 30 minutes), both claimable separately at full release.
Is the Tar Golem fight in Finish the Fight actually winnable?
Yes, on a first playthrough, though it's very difficult and compared to notoriously hard "not meant to be beaten yet" fights like Sekiro's Genichiro. Winning changes nothing story-wise — the same cutscene plays whether you win or die — so the achievement is the only reason to push through it.
What platforms is the Mortal Shell II open beta available on?
PC (Steam), PS5 (PlayStation Store), and Xbox Series X|S (Microsoft Store). It is not available on Switch, Switch 2, PS4, or Xbox One.
